I'd hate to be sitting behind her in the theatre

Otherwise known as "what in good hell was she thinking?"

Pity, since the dress is actually quite lovely. And she's considered a style icon again, why?

And yes, I know it's for the Sex and the City movie premiere and she's just channeling Carrie Bradshaw, but honey, there just comes a point where you have to draw a line and say, "This is simply ridiculous."

It totally looks like she's wearing a flower arrangement (and not a particularly attractive one) on her head. Never a good look for anyone, IMO. I agree that the dress itself is quite nice.

I actually have a terrible weakness for ridiculously architectural/sculptural hats, and I have to admit that I like the concept of this one (and if I wore it to a theatre I'd of course take it off and hold it in my lap the second the lights went down).

Not so keen on the execution -- the base should have gone further with the green peacock iridescence, preferably actual feathers, very smooth and sleek (the scaly acorn-cap shape is utterly horrid), and the rest of the arrangement should have taken color and theme cues from that. A lime green cabbage rose? Cute idea, but somebody should have noticed that it just ends up looking like, well, a cabbage. And the whole thing, even perfectly done, could never stylistically work with that particular dress.

But, though the actual hat is pretty awful, I can't help liking the idea of it and wanting to construct proper outfits to accompany it. Please don't hate me!

Oh honey, I could never hate you and you make very valid points. I have a weakness for big hats myself, but within context. Case in point: two of my favorite films, costume-wise, of all time are Hello Dolly! and My Fair Lady and how much more over the top can you get than that? I mean, Dolly's lavender ensemble or Eliza's black and white with the HUGE hat? Perfection. But that's because it was all done with an eye towards the ensemble as a whole.

And that's what makes that thing on SJP's head such an unmitigated disaster. I will admit to liking the colors of the acorn cap thing (I have SUCH a weakness for peacocks, the preeny bastards) but that acorn shape? Oyall I could think was it looked like the ass-end of a peacock had crash-landed onto her head.

I have to agree. I like the concept just not the execution of the design.

That is a hat that says LOOK AT ME NOT KIM CATTRALL!!!!!!!!

I wonder if she stapled that to her head? Or maybe used epoxy. I can't see how she's keeping that up there.

I'll have you know I've been giggling at random moments today, imagining taking that bad boy off and muttering, "Damn, no more Crazy Glue!"

What would really be fun is if she Crazy-Glued her head to the bottom of a big steel girder. That would be quite the fashion statement.

Oh boy - that one's a doozy!

Dear gods, I am so allergic to that woman and everything she is and does. Literally, I think she's hideous. I've never seen her wear anything I thought she looked good in. Just a classic turnoff on every level for me.

And the dress might be lovely on someone else. She looks like leftover wilted maché in it.

ha, I hadn't seen a picture that close up yet, but that is a acorn top at the bottom of the hat...that is pretty hilarious.

Though the hat proves to be shocking the lines under her eyes and pulling at her very high cheek bones caught me more off guard. If she meant to hide them the hat draws more attention to them, IMO.

I -do- love that dress...

I like the dress, too, but not on her. Her overall coloring right now is so uniform and bland, that she needed a dress with a deeper, more dramatic color. As it is, the color of the dress appears washed out and she appears washed out. With the next effect of the only thing that does stand out is... the hat and the lines under her eyes and...

*sigh*

Greetings everybody.

Hello all. I'm new to the forums and wanted to say hi.

Pity, since the dress is actually quite lovely. And she's considered a style icon again, why?

I've wondered that for years. One, the clothes she wore on Sex and the City were butt-ugly. Two, those clothes were chosen by Patricia Field, not SJP. Three, that hat is such a plea for attention -- the other women were wearing nice, elegant dresses, and only SJP added a wackadoo hat.

Well, I thought from about the second season on, that a huge deal was made of the fact that SJP went shopping with Patricia Field in order to build Carrie's wardrobe and that a great deal of it was created with SJP's input. In fact I have this vague memory of Patricia Field giving an interview where she said that SJP had a very definite style sense and a very clear vision for how she saw Carrie.

I haven't even seen any pictures of the others in mainstream articles yet, which does go right along with the "plea for attention" theory.

And again, the dress, is so pretty, but not on her. She's too beige for that color, which just draws the attention that much more to the shrubbery on her head.

Here's a pic of the four of them, with their conversation supplied by The Fug Girls. *g*

CYNTHIA: I'm hypnotized. Kim is going to cut her.

KIM: I AM GOING TO CUT HER.

SJP: ... and you water it, and suddenly it blossoms into a mature flower...

KRISTIN: Ten bucks says Kim snaps in five minutes.

CYNTHIA: Double or nothing says it's two.

Yep. That about sums it up. *g* I rather liked Kristin's dress—at least of the four.

I put something like that on top of a cake once. A CAKE.
